Hooray For Sports Gambling? In the U.S., the first words uttered about online sports gambling sends shivers down the spines of lawmakers and commissioners of the country’s major sports. Online sports gambling is illegal, and that is how the government and the sports leagues want it.
In other countries, however, sports gambling has prospered for years. The UK sanctions online sports gambling, and it has led to a profitable situation for both gaming company and government. Now, Canada may throw their hat in the sports gambling ring.
Atlantic Lottery Corp. is searching for ways to keep current for their customers, and sports gambling, looks like the way they are preparing to go to keep that relevancy. They are reportedly looking for a software company to build them an online gambling site.
"In order to remain relevant to our players we must deliver what the player wants in the safest and most entertaining way possible," said the Atlantic Lottery Corp. on their website. The revenue that could be created from the sports gambling could be enormous.
Being that sports gambling is illegal in the U.S. outside of Las Vegas, people would come from the U.S. to Canada to place their bets on sporting events. The money that is generated could go to areas of need for Canada, a country that is also struggling with the worldwide recession.
The plan does have its opponents. At least one Nova Scotia politician believes that online sports gambling has no place in their jurisdiction.
